Translated into figures, the 38-year-old has earned a gross amount of 126 million euros over the course of 12 months, from both player salaries and marketing.

Forbes has published a list of the top 10 highest-paid athletes, with 3 footballers, 3 basketball players, 1 boxer, 1 tennis player, and 2 golfers. Second in terms of earnings is Lionel Messi, followed by Kylian Mbappe, with 120 and 111 million euros, respectively. In fourth place is a basketball player, LeBron James, followed by Canelo Alvarez, a Mexican boxer.

The 6th and 7th places belong to two well-known golfers, Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson. The list of the top 10 highest-paid athletes is rounded out by Stephen Curry, Roger Federer, and Kevin Durant. The latter has earned 82 million euros gross in these 12 months. A significant portion of the earnings also comes from the popularity that athletes have on social media, where Ronaldo can be considered their king, counting over 600 million followers on Instagram alone.
