POEM BY SALOME MURRO (PHILIPPINES)

TEARS TO SMILES

There she is, sitting all alone and broke
Don’t know how to stand and how to cope
Nothing left to herself
Not a single drop of hope.

She had gone through with pain and struggles in life
Unhealed, she buried it deep down in her heart
Concealed everything, walk with smile and grace
Thinking it will heal at the right time and place.

Many days have passed and everything goes well
The agonies she kept inside, no one can tell
Walking with elegance and exquisiteness
The pain from the past, she doesn’t remember and is feeling at ease.

But all cannot be hidden or concealed
The ghost in the past slowly reappeared
Haunting her present and anxieties appear
The smile and elegance melted in fear.

Everyday the hurt and hidden sorrow scream
Triggering her tears to flow like a river and ruining her dream
The glow in her cheeks slowly dissipate
Now totally covered with agony and hate.

Anger, anguish and fear fill herself
Looking back, darkness engulfs her entire self
But she needs to reconnect with her past
To make her present complete and have happiness that lasts.

To live the present she must embrace her scars
Reconcile with her past for her to restore
Never let bygones bring her present down
Bring back the smile and wear the crown.

To be whole she has to embrace it all
Cure the wound from yesterday’s fall
Accept everything and wear the scars
Grow and glow with her own light like the stars.
