After two days of harsh criticism from the Spanish press for his behavior in “El Clasico,” Vinicius Junior has finally broken his silence.
The Brazilian wanted to make a public apology for his reaction at the moment of being substituted — an incident that increased tensions inside Real Madrid’s dressing room and with coach Xabi Alonso.
“Today I want to apologize to all Madrid fans for my reaction when I was substituted during El Clasico,” the Brazilian forward wrote on his social media accounts.
“As I have already done personally in today’s training session, I also want to apologize to my teammates, the club, and the president,” the footballer added, notably without mentioning the Basque coach.
Vinicius then tried to explain the reason behind his gesture, linking it to his competitive nature.
“Sometimes, passion and the desire to win take over. My character comes from the love I feel for this club and for everything it represents. I promise I will continue to fight every second for the good of Real Madrid, just as I have done since the first day,” added Vini Jr.
However, the matter does not seem to be completely closed.
According to Spanish media, coach Xabi Alonso will decide whether or not to take disciplinary action against the player.
One detail hasn’t gone unnoticed: in his public apology, Vinicius mentioned the fans, teammates, and club management — but not the coach.
A sign that perhaps indicates the relationship between the two remains tense.
