A kindergarten in Kharkiv was hit by a Russian drone on Wednesday morning, killing one person and injuring seven others, according to Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko.
Around 50 children were evacuated from the scene, while the exact number of injured children remains unclear. In a Facebook post, Klymenko said that rescue teams and police officers safely evacuated the children from the kindergarten struck by Russian forces.
“Small hands hold the shoulders of those who save and protect them. There are no principles or rules in Russia’s actions — only destruction and death,” the minister said.
Police, in cooperation with Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU), are documenting the incident as a war crime against civilians and children.
“So far, we know that one person was killed and seven were injured. Around fifty children have been safely evacuated. The exact number of injured children is under investigation,” Klymenko added.
“There is no justification for a drone strike on a kindergarten — nor can there ever be. It is clear that Russia is becoming increasingly shameless. These attacks are Russia’s slap in the face to all those insisting on a peaceful solution. Bandits and terrorists can only be put in their place by force,” wrote President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Meanwhile, at least six people, including two children, were killed in new Russian missile and drone attacks across Ukraine overnight, causing widespread power outages throughout the country.
