Poem by Liudmyla Diadchenko:

Carousel and caramel
Are held in hands the wind keeps striking!
Climb gently up,
Slide gently down;
You can always get it right, so
Either treat yourself kindly
With pleading, or spit at fate:
What must be and what will come
Will escape everyone at once,
Taking one and taking all,
Even the plastic
Grasshoppers of the carousel.
Go on – gather
Memories the same way
Fleas gather
On a stray dog –
It only gets harder,
Even if eased, now and then,
By a gull’s scream,
A piercing whinny, or some meow.
To be honest, it’s neither
Too little nor too much.
This whole life is a place
You’ve observed and bartered
For other places, because
You were never welcome.
