Roberto De Zerbi is no longer the head coach of Olympique Marseille.
The news was confirmed by the French club itself, which announced the termination of its cooperation with the Italian coach by mutual agreement.
Pressure on De Zerbi had increased significantly following a disappointing 2025/26 season. The heavy 5–0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain is considered the decisive moment that led to his departure from the bench at the “Velodrome.”
Marseille was also eliminated in the group stage of the Champions League.
In the league, the team failed to compete for the Ligue 1 title, finishing in fourth place, 12 points behind leaders Paris.
In its official statement, the club announced that the decision was taken after joint discussions at the highest management level.
“Olympique de Marseille and Roberto De Zerbi, head coach of the first team, announce the end of their collaboration by mutual agreement. Following discussions involving all stakeholders in the club’s management — the owner, the president, the sporting director, and the coach — it was decided that a change at the head of the first team was necessary. This was a difficult and collective decision, reached after careful consideration and in the best interests of the club in order to face the sporting challenges of the final part of the season. Olympique de Marseille would like to thank Roberto De Zerbi for his investment, commitment, professionalism, and dedication, highlighted in particular by the second-place finish achieved during the 2024/25 season,” the French club’s statement reads.
Marseille is expected to announce the name of the new head coach who will take charge of the team for the remainder of the season soon.
