Mbappé on the Vinícius incident: Prestianni should never play in the Champions League again
Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé reacted strongly following the alleged racist incident involving his teammate Vinícius Junior during the match against Benfica.
According to Mbappé, Benfica player Gianluca Prestianni racially abused Vinícius during the game.
“Prestianni should never play in the Champions League again,” Mbappé said after the match.
“I asked Vini what he wanted us to do. He told me, ‘Yes, we should leave the pitch.’”
The Frenchman added that the reaction of the fans came because they were not informed about what had been said on the field.
They booed us because the fans didn’t hear what was said. We have to do something; we can’t allow this.”
Mbappé emphasized that such cases require immediate action.
“I hope measures will be taken. We must set an example for all the children who look up to us as role models. There are things we cannot accept. I’m not saying I’m perfect, but I won’t let something like this pass. This player is young—how can you say such things on a football pitch?”
“Now we have to wait and see what will happen,” Mbappé concluded.
Meanwhile, Vinícius Junior was booed throughout the match because of his goal celebration and was shown a yellow card.
