Liverpool had a surprisingly strong reaction after Jurgen Klopp’s departure last season, with Arne Slot leading the team to an extraordinary Premier League triumph.
Since the end of that season, however, their fortunes have declined significantly.
Slot is struggling to replicate last year’s success, and Liverpool currently sit in 12th place, having lost half of their 12 Premier League matches so far.

Already 11 points behind league-leaders Arsenal, the 4–1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League has placed his future under heavy criticism.
While the Dutch manager still has time to save his position, there is little doubt that Liverpool are considering alternatives. According to The Sun, former Barcelona and Spain manager Luis Enrique is their preferred option to replace him.
This, of course, would require him to leave Paris Saint-Germain, where he is under contract until 2027 — something that would be far from easy.
If Slot is dismissed before the end of the season, Jurgen Klopp could be considered as a temporary solution until the summer, with Liverpool then aiming for Luis Enrique as their long-term appointment.
“Lucho,” at this point, has won everything at PSG and may feel that after three seasons he has nothing left to achieve in Paris before the end of the year.
