Laporta: The Hardest Decisions Were About Messi, Koeman, and Xavi

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has spoken about the toughest decisions he has made in recent years, emphasizing that he has always put the club’s interests above everything else.

“The three most difficult decisions we have made were about Lionel Messi, Ronald Koeman, and Xavi Hernández. We placed the interests of FC Barcelona above everything. They were very difficult decisions. I intervened personally,” Laporta stated.

He also spoke about the relationship between head coach Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco, highlighting the importance of continuity in the sporting project.

“It’s not easy to create harmony between a sporting director and a coach. They are two people who understand football. This enriches the sporting project. Deco wants renewed trust so he can continue his work. There are homegrown players and players coming from outside with a formula that works. The fans are satisfied,” Laporta added.

The president emphasized that his decisions have always aimed to maintain stability and strengthen Barcelona’s long-term sporting project.
