Barcelona president Joan Laporta, during a public event on Thursday, revealed that the club has already begun working on erecting a statue dedicated to the Argentine.
Laporta emphasized that Messi, the greatest player in Barcelona’s history, deserves to be represented among the club’s iconic figures in the renovated stadium. “Within the board of directors, together with my colleagues, we always think that something more should be done for Messi. He should have a statue at Spotify Camp Nou, just like Cruyff and Kubala. It would only be right for Leo to have his own statue. He is one of those reference players who has left a mark on all of us,” Laporta said.
The president confirmed that the process is already in the planning phase and that the tribute ceremony will take place at the right moment, in full agreement with the Messi family. “We are working on it. Of course, the family has to agree. When the right time comes and we have the design of the statue, we will propose it. We would love that, as Barcelona fans. I believe all Barcelona supporters would want to have a statue of Leo Messi where the great figures in Barcelona’s history are located.”
