Jürgen Klopp could have taken charge of Manchester United in 2016, but the German coach turned down the opportunity.
Klopp himself confirmed this on the podcast Diary of a CEO, revealing the behind-the-scenes story of an offer made to him by the Red Devils’ management.
“It was 2016,” said Jürgen Klopp. “We had a few meetings where they presented their project to me, but they brought up some things that didn’t convince me. They told me: ‘We’ll get you all the players you want — this one and that one.’ Meanwhile, I was sitting there thinking, this isn’t my kind of project. I didn’t want to bring Cristiano Ronaldo and Pogba back to Manchester United — those things never work.”
