The 38-year-old is currently enjoying a positive spell in MLS, where he appears likely to end his career. However, that hasn’t stopped various teams from dreaming about signing him.
According to recent reports, Chelsea, Benfica, and Galatasaray attempted to secure the Argentine star’s services in January, but their offers were rejected by Inter Miami.
A short-term contract was prepared for the left-footed legend, who will participate in another World Cup next year.
Chelsea and the two other clubs expressed their desire to bring Messi in on a deal until the end of the season, but the idea was immediately dismissed by Inter Miami’s management — including David Beckham, who originally convinced Messi to choose MLS.
It remains to be seen whether Messi will consider another club in the future, as he needs to stay in top form ahead of the World Cup.
The MLS format could pose a slight challenge for the Ballon d’Or record-holder, since an early playoff elimination would leave him sidelined for two to three weeks.
