How much money does each team earn in the Spanish Super Cup? Historic increase in prize money for 2026

The Spanish Super Cup is preparing for a historic edition in 2026. Following Barcelona’s triumph in 2025, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has decided to significantly increase the financial rewards, aiming to give greater importance to the tournament and to motivate the participating teams.

The total prize pool will rise from €19 million in 2025—shared among Barcelona, Real Madrid, Athletic Club, and Mallorca—to approximately €23 million for the 2026 edition. This time, the beneficiaries will be Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, and Athletic Club.

However, the distribution of the funds is not linear. Each club receives its share based on specific criteria such as titles won, the club’s history, and television audience figures, which means the amounts vary depending on both historical success and recent performance.

The most recent edition of the Super Cup sparked controversy, as Real Madrid and Barcelona each received €6 million, Athletic Club earned €2 million, while Mallorca received only €850,000. In addition, the semifinalists earned €1 million, while the champion received an extra €2 million. Athletic Club even publicly called for a fairer distribution of revenues among the participants.

Overall, the Spanish Super Cup generates total revenue of €51.9 million for the RFEF. These revenues come from three main sources: sponsorships, which generate around €27 million; organization and participation fees amounting to €11.5 million; and television rights valued at €12.69 million.

An important aspect is that around €28 million of this revenue is allocated to non-professional football in Spain. This strengthens the economic impact of the Super Cup beyond elite clubs and shows that the tournament contributes to the development of the entire Spanish football structure.
