Donald Trump has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz

The American president has given Iran 48 hours to reopen the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s most important maritime routes for oil exports—in order to avoid airstrikes on its power plants.

In an escalation of ongoing tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran, Trump stated that if Iran does not allow full passage through Hormuz within 48 hours, the United States will strike Iran’s electricity power plants, targeting the energy sector without causing long-term disruption to global oil supplies.

Iran has thus been given a harsh ultimatum, as the maritime transit zone is nearly closed due to the conflict that began at the end of February, leading to rising oil prices and global energy uncertainty.

Meanwhile, in response to this ultimatum, Iran has declared that the Strait of Hormuz will remain open to all vessels except those it considers linked to hostile countries, emphasizing that “its position is dictated by the situation on the ground and military aggression by the United States and its allies.”

Additionally, Iran has warned that in the event of attacks on its infrastructure, it will retaliate by targeting energy infrastructure and water facilities connected to American interests in the region.
