Iran’s Supreme Council for State Security has allowed women in this country to enter stadiums to watch football matches, reported the Iranian news agency “ISNA”.
The president of the Iran Football Federation, Mehdi Taj, said that the stadiums “Gol Gohar” in Sirjan, “Naghsh-e Jahan” and “Foolad Sahr” in Isfahan and “Gadir” in Ahvaz will be opened for women, while the stadium “Azadi” ” in Tehran will have to be prepared.
“Women will be able to visit the stadiums. Iran’s Supreme Council for State Security made such a decision. A working group has been appointed for the implementation of the project, while the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy, the National Assembly of Iran and two institutions of the Ministry of Information are developing a plan for the implementation of the reforms, said Taj.
Women in Iran have been banned from participating in men’s sporting events since the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
In 2018, at the invitation of FIFA president Gianni Infantino, Iranian authorities allowed women to occasionally attend Iranian national football matches.
