ANTOON VAN DEN BRAEMBUSSCHE, an internationally renowned philosopher and poet (Belgium, b. Eeklo, 1946), living in Bruges, is since October 2011 professor emeritus of art criticism at the Free University of Brussels. He also taught extensively (from 1980 till 2007) philosophy of history and aesthetics at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. His specialties are: philosophy of art and aesthetics, art criticism, philosophy of history, philosophy of culture, comparative and intercultural philosophy, poetry, essays, and poetic performances. His most well-known book is “Thinking Art”, published by Springer in 2009. As a poet Van den Braembussche has published eight Poetry collections.
His poetry is marked by an existential, introspective tone, often balancing between mysticism and melancholy. Van den Braembussche’s poetic voice is deeply rooted in his philosophical background, giving his poetry a layered and meditative quality. He is a poet of thought and feeling, attuned to the delicate beauty of the fleeting moment. His poetry has been translated into 40 languages. His poetry, which embodies a unique blend of existential, philosophical and mystical themes, written in a clear and accessible language, gradually became more successful. The last years, he published extensively in different languages.
