Goal Against Scotland, Xherdan Shaqiri Sets Extraordinary Record at EURO 2024

The 2024 European Championship may only be in the second round of matches, but it has already produced some incredible moments.

Another was added to this list on Wednesday evening, as Xherdan Shaqiri scored a brilliant goal for Switzerland against Scotland, equalizing the match at 1-1. And it’s a goal that has set an incredible record for the former Liverpool player, one that even Cristiano Ronaldo has not achieved. Shaqiri, 32, stands alone as the player who has scored in the last three European Championships and World Cups.

In the 2014 World Cup, Shaqiri scored a hat-trick against Honduras to start his extraordinary streak of tournament goals. He followed that with one of the goals of the tournament at Euro 2016, a stunning strike against Poland. Shaqiri’s third consecutive tournament goal came in the 2018 World Cup, where he scored in the 2-1 victory over Serbia. The Swiss winger added three more goals in Euro 2020, two against Turkey and another against Spain.
