UNTIL WHEN…

Another death…
Another death in my country
A murder to be exact, a murder
Someone killed a policeman
Or rather a madman killed a man…

Every time I hear
About murders
I still remember the muzzle of the pistol
Above my head
On my forehead
Above my left temple
On that eleventh day of August two thousand
When a dark haired boy, handsome, so young
To me he seemed dressed in black,
While I was told later,
He was wearing blue jeans,
He wanted to grab the earnings from my hard work,
My blood,
My children’s bread…
I never wanted to let it go
I was protecting it selflessly
With all the might of my soul…

While I fighting against him I heard a voice

  • Mum…give it to him, he will kill you for real – screamed my daughter, crying.
    She…was still a child…
I heard them cry and scream, she and her younger brother
At the entrance of the flat
They were shouting with all their might:
  • Help… Help… Help…!

At that moment I remembered
What happened to
My friend in Tirana a while ago
They killed her…in front of her kids
They killed her because she was working
and protecting her hard work
With dedication…
And my daughter knew the story…

At that moment I surrendered… the robber grabbed and stole
What he was intended to…
And I…
I ten days later
With heart-wrenching pain
I would leave my mother and my nest…
I would leave with tears in my eyes
My homeland…

Another death…
I heard…
Another death in my country
A murder to be exact,
Yes, a murder
Someone killed a man…
I don’t know what happened to him
I don’t know the story,
I know one thing only;
These murders,
Don’t seem to end
In my country…
