Poem by Francis Otole

A WALK IN THE NIGHT
once by the cemetery walking
I heard some voices talking;

‘last night I soundly slept,
good when you pay your debt’

‘my family cried I’m dead
but I finally found a place to put my head’

‘the world won’t stop crying
they don’t know I’m tired of trying’

‘despite all pleasure the world gave
there is more treasure in the grave’

‘the best thing in life is health
and not the amassment of wealth’

‘as good as life is nurtured in the womb
it is not as cozy as the tomb’

‘l have lived and endlessly roamed
now I’m finally home’

when I realized who were talking
I hurried home, slowly walking.
